The Center Of Attention
Written by Tnedator
Sep 05, 2008 at 04:52 PM

In street clothes, I believe most football fans would be quite surprised by the physical look of a number of prominent NFL offensive centers. Although most will never win the proverbial beauty contest, the good ones’ all possess qualities and skills that are essential to play winning football at the professional level.

Offensive Centers: It All Starts Here
Written by Tnedator
Sep 05, 2008 at 04:52 PM

Unless he just isn’t getting the job done on the field, a solid offensive center, much like a top setup man in baseball or penalty killer in hockey, is hardly noticeable during the course of a game. Former scout Tom Marino likes what he sees in this year’s group and shares it today with the readers at scout.com.

Denver Broncos Inside Slant
Written by Tnedator
Sep 05, 2008 at 12:42 PM

When receiver Brandon Marshall's NFL suspension was reduced from three games to one, the Denver Broncos were thrilled. Still, playing even one game without their top playmaker will be difficult. Denver starts the season at Oakland in the second game of a Monday night doubleheader. Marshall figures the receivers left to fill in for him will do just fine. "At the wide receiver position, we're so deep it's not going to be a dropoff," Marshall said.

Denver Broncos Notes, Quotes
Written by Tnedator

--Feeling good about their cornerback depth, the Broncos traded fourth-year corner Domonique Foxworth to Atlanta for a seventh-round pick in 2009. Foxworth wanted the opportunity to start, which wasn't going to happen this year with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly holding down the starting spots. Foxworth can be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

Denver Broncos Strategy and Personnel
Written by Tnedator
Sep 05, 2008 at 12:42 PM

The Broncos weren't done when they cut down to 53 players. The biggest moves were in the secondary, where cornerback Domonique Foxworth was traded to Atlanta, safety Roderick Rogers was cut and brought back to the practice squad and safety Calvin Lowry was claimed off waivers from Tennessee. The Broncos also signed guard Dylan Gandy and defensive tackle Josh Shaw. Defensive tackle Alvin McKinley was released. McKinley and Foxworth were each major contributors to the defense last year.

Broncos-Raiders Preview
Written by Tnedator

A first-year starter at quarterback can hamper a team, as Jay Cutler sometimes did with the Denver Broncos last season. The Oakland Raiders, meanwhile, will be trying to minimize JaMarcus Russell's growing pains. After an inconsistent 2007 season, Cutler and the Broncos begin their quest to end a two-year playoff drought when they kick off the 2008 campaign with a visit to face Russell and the AFC West rival Raiders on Monday night.

Sep 04, 2008 at 06:53 PM

The goal in JaMarcus Russell's NFL debut against Denver nine months ago was survival. After a lengthy holdout that forced him to miss the entire preseason, Russell was still learning the playbook for that game last December when he made a two-series stint that gave only a quick tease of what he could offer. There was an impressive completion on his first pass, a fumbled snap and a few other ups and downs, but nothing to show why Russell was the first overall pick in the 2007 draft.
